What I am talking about?

So I will be talking about a tool which has proved to be a great asset for me as I skyrocketed with my affiliate marketing campaigns after I started using the SimilarWeb tool. I have been using this tool for my research to find new campaigns for an affiliate network and how are they being promoted. To tell you about success secret in affiliate market “70% of it is research & 30% is your work” I have always followed the same mantra & I stay ahead with latest knowledge with my research. In the same direction I am sharing this ultimate tool which you can also utilize in your own way to find potential affiliate programs working with a network & how these affiliates are promoting those offers (not always true as you will use this tool).

What is SimilarWeb Tool?

This is an ultimate tool which shows you the website or a URL statistics as detailed out below.

I have used (an affiliate network) as an example to explain things so that you are clearer.

  1. What is the total traffic on the website on monthly basis: it shows the monthly traffic trend of the website.
  2. Traffic by country for the website: shows the traffic share by country
  3. Traffic Sources of the website: it details out as what traffic sources the traffic is coming from on the website. This is detailed under below mentioned heads.Similarweb-trafficsources
    • Referrals: this shows the referring websites traffic
    • Search: this details out the search statistics as what are keywords driving traffic to website (paid as well as organic)
    • Social: traffic share by social platforms such as FB, Twitter etc.
    • Display: details about the display (paid) traffic on various ad networks.
  4. Website Content: this section shows you the popular pages or subdomain where the traffic is coming on the website.
  5. Audience Interest: this details out the categories of interests of a user coming to the website as what are the interests of the user & what other websites the user visit apart from the website interest. This basically gives a behavioral report of the user.Similarweb-audience
  6. Similar Sites: what are the similar sites of the same category?

How to Use Similarweb & What For?

There can be many usages as per your requirements however the most useful that I used is the referrals as well as the outgoing links of the website when it comes to finding potential affiliate programs. So you can use similarweb for below purposes (but not limited to).

  1. Check the Traffic on a Website:

Similarweb-trafficOverviewIf you wish to check the traffic of a website as how many clicks or visitors are coming to the website you can use the overview section for the same.

  2. Check Countries:

Similarweb-trafficbycountryYou can check which country the website is popular in.

  3. Check the referring sites (or find the top affiliates of a network):

Similarweb-referralsThis is the most usable feature that I use similar web for. If you have a look at the screen grab below you will see that has almost 60% of the traffic coming from referrals which means (now since the affiliate tracking URL of the network is also so you can check what affiliates are the top ones using this feature, as affiliates will be using tracking URL to send traffic to the advertiser link which will first hit & then redirect to the advertiser’s website). You can see that,,,, in the top list of referrers. So these are the top 5 affiliates of Shareasale Network. You get only 5 links in the free account. If you wish to see more results then you will need to have their paid subscription. You can check the pricing here. I use the basic plan & I have taken the yearly subscription with some discount.

This way you can find the top affiliates of a network or the top referring sources. All you need to do is to enter the tracking URL of a network & press hit & check referrals section.

Note: you may encounter some of the URLs (in referrals) which don’t have any page or they showup a blank page. In such case you will need to check the referring URLs of such referral.

  1. Check Outgoing or Destination URLs (or Find the Top Affiliate Programs):

Similarweb-referralsSince the affiliate tracking URLs will be redirected to the advertiser’s URL hence if you know where it is redirected mostly then you know that top advertisers are the ones where it is redirected. If you see the screen grab below you will see the top destination URLs are,,,, etc. so these are the top affiliate programs run on ShareASale affiliate network.

  2. Check the Keywords Driving Traffic to Website:

similarweb-searchthis will list down the top keywords which are driving traffic to website (both paid as well as organic). You can use this to check if an affiliate is bidding on some keywords which are related to affiliate programs (the brand keywords). From the point no. 3 you know the top affiliates so you can check if any of these are bidding on any paid keywords related to affiliate program. Just put the affiliate website URL in SimilarWeb & check Search section.

  3. Check Social Media Traffic:

Similarweb-socialUse this tool to check social traffic for Facebook, Twitter, etc.

  4. Check if Affiliates are Promoting on Adnetworks?

Similarweb-displayJust see the screen grab below you will note that affiliates are promoting the links on some networks as well like Popcash, Taboola, Google Display Network. So it means that affiliate use paid media to promote their links on above mentioned platforms.

  5. Check The Competitors?

Similarweb-similarsitesIf you see the similar sites section it will show you the probable competitors of the website you are analyzing. You can see all the affiliate networks list under this section.

  6. Check How Affiliates Bring Traffic?

You know an affiliate’s website & you also wish to check where does the traffic come from & what are the keywords driving traffic to affiliate’s website then this tool becomes quite handy & you can check all desired details from the tool. Which you can utilize for your use as you wish.

Is SimilarWeb Tool Free?

Yes, however you will get a limited data with the free version. If you are looking for more detailed analysis or more data then you will have to take the paid subscription which starts from USD 199. If you are a beginner or don’t have enough money then I would suggest you to use the free version only.
